He tells him, "All is secret and no one will know;
you can do as you please and go where you'll go -
and then when you're done, you'll have trophies to show."
(He makes the boy feel that he's in control)
And then when He's finished, he throws him aside
strips all his glory & empties his pride.
He sneers in his face at the hope that has died
(And now the boy knows that Satan has lied)
He leaves him a master that screams for yet more;
The lad's ideals once were lofty - he now craves for the whore -
he once was somebody, but now he's ignored
(He leaves him a shell, bitterness at the core)
He leaves him to feel that all hope is gone;
there's no one who cares - the boy's totally alone
He shows him burned bridges, there's no going home
(And now Satan laughs at the work that he's done)
He's stole from within him all hope that was there
He's trashed all his dreams & stolen his prayers
He's left him so lonely, with no one who cares
(And Satan is through-- all that's left is despair).
Redemption (Act II)
How great a predicament; how great is his plight -
When offered a choice, he'd never chose right
Where once there was swagger there now is plain fright.
(Aware of his guilt, the boy flees from the light.)
But the One who should loathe him comes again & again -
the One who is pure and has never known sin -
He comes to his filth & asks to come in
(Where he thought there was no one, the boy finds a friend)
And the God who could destroy him, says now, "Don't run:
Come out from your hiding - I've seen all you've done -
My child, now hear me: I choose you for a son."
(And it's as God's speaking that redemption's begun)
And though he's filled with such a horrible shame
in desperation, he cries out that one holy Name
and immediately senses that nothing's the same!
(Finally, he's free from the guilt and the blame)
Hope that had fled him now pours in his soul;
before he was broken, yet now he is whole.
He used to be bitter, yet now, the love flows
(and with assurance, he knows it's God in control)
Once filled with fear, it's now peace that remains
Where once there was turmoil, now it's joy that reigns!
No longer a slave, God has broken the chains
(He stands there unblemished - God's removed all the stains!)
Satan Overcome (Finale)
With a renewed interest, Satan comes once again;
in his familiar voice He shouts old commands -
when that doesn't work He tries some new plans
(But he sees in amazement the boy's out of his hands!)
The wicked genuis offers up some new ploys;
tries new tempations, new pride, and new toys,
brings about heartaches to steal away his joy
(But He now finds a man where once stood a boy)
Satan tries to remind him of all his past that he's known,
but the scheme isn't working - He can't get him alone;
this frustrating lad just won't leave the throne
(and the Father keeps saying, "My child, well done!")
But finally, in a moment, He gets him to stumble
and how Satan laughs when the boy takes a tumble!
But...he gets right back up--and it's Satan that's fumbled
(He thought he'd be beaten; but the man's merely humbled)
And even in falling, he's turned to the Word -
and now the man handles it skillful, adept, as a Sword -
and through revealed weakness they're even more in accord!
(In anger, Satan finds the man stronger now in the Lord)
For a time He'll give up, and it's the truth that remains:
No longer His prize He once held in disdain,
no longer his slave, who was wrapped with great chains
(He belongs now forever to the Savior Who reigns!)
