Thanksgiving Repentance

Dear Lord, at this Thanksgiving time
I have some things to say:
I'm thinking of the things
I take for granted every day.

If You withheld my daily bread
'Til I would beg for more--
How many days would pass
Before my knees would hit the floor?

If You should dry up all the clouds
(Of which I oft complain),
How many weeks would pass
Before I'd cry to You for rain?

If You should take away each friend
That I've not thanked You for,
How many friends would I have left?
Would I not pray for more?

If You should turn the sunshine off,
And make the moon retreat---
How long before I'd seek You, Lord,
And pray for light and heat?

Dear God, I could go on and on,
And still not ever say
A word about so many things
You do for me each day!

You've spoken to me in Your Word;
Encouraged me through strife!
You sent Your Son to die,
That I might have Eternal Life!

Yet oft my voice is strangely still--
I speak no word of praise:
I take each gift, but then forget
My voice in thanks to raise!

O Lord, please change this thankless heart,
And cause my soul to sing!
Let my lips scatter grateful praise
To You, my God and King!
