To Save Us From Our Sins!

There is no doubt about it... this is perhaps the most concise answer of all, and it certainly is correct: Christ died to save us from our sins!

A problem arises, however, when we try to determine exactly what that means. Suppose for a moment that the ONLY statement in the Bible concerning the purpose of Christ's death was simply, "Christ died to save us from our sins." Now imagine all of the different interpretations that would be offered by various teachers; each presented as a clear explanation of the statement: "Christ died to save us from our sins."

There are some today who say it means that Christ died to save us from the guilt of our sins.... to forgive us.

Others say it means more than that... it means that He died to save us from the guilt and the penalty of our sins.

Still others say that it means all that and more... it means that he died to save us from the guilt and penalty of sin, and also to save us from the power and dominion of sin.

All of those statements are correct, but none of them alone can come close to fully stating the meaning of "Christ died to save us from our sins."

It is very important that we get a clear and comprehensive understanding of why Christ died. The simple statement, "Christ died to save us from our sins" is hardly adequate all by itself to explain all that was accomplished by His sacrifice.

I'm so glad God has given us His Word, the Bible, and that we can discover in its pages all the wonderful benefits we can receive because Christ loved us and gave Himself for us.
