There is no doubt that Christians can receive much encouragement from the example Christ gave us in His sufferings. The Bible Book of Hebrews was written to Jewish Christian believers who were suffering great persecution because of their faith in Christ.

In Hebrews 12:1 those Jewish believers were exhorted to remain steadfast in their faith in spite of hardships. They were advised to deal with suffering in the same way their Lord had dealt with it; by focusing on the glories that would surely come as a result of faithfulness.

Yes, Christians can learn how to bear suffering from Christ's example in His life and death. However, this is never stated in God's Word as a specific reason for Christ's death and resurrection; to encourage us to be willing to suffer for the truth.
