So All Who Believe In Him Can Go To Heaven

Yes, this is surely one of the reasons that Christ chose to leave the glories of Heaven, take on human form, and ultimately die for the sins of the world. It is interesting, however, that while most Christians today put the emphasis on this aspect of salvation, the Bible never specifically states it as the REASON for Christ's death and resurrection.

Every Sunday School child learns John 3:16, where we are told that God gave his Son so that all who believe in Him would have "everlasting life." Everlasting life certainly includes a home in Heaven. But everlasting life is much more than a ticket to Heaven. Everlasting life is also much more than life without end. Everlasting life is God's life imparted to us when, by faith, we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

See how many Bible passages you can think of which clearly state specific reasons for Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Then see how many of them say anything about taking us to Heaven when we die.

Modern evangelism often presents salvation as nothing more than an escape from Hell and a ticket to Heaven. While it is gloriously true that Christians have been rescued from judgment and will spend eternity with Christ, it is also true that there is much more to salvation than that.

We do not have to wait for death (or Christ's return) in order to obtain many of the blessings and benefits that are promised to all who have received Christ as Lord and Savior.
